Smokin' Break

Every once in awhile, friends from around the world stop in Bangkok for various reasons and let me know they're in town.  This April, I had a good friend from the US come for a conference and we had the opportunity to get together on several occasions while he was here.

Most people who know me, know that it doesn't take much to get me to stay along the Chao Praya River in Bangkok which is what I did when Darrell came to town. Typically, it doesn't matter what hotel I end up at because there is always a good view from the room of the river and city skyline!

I have a way to find the best deal at the hotels along the riverfront and, this year, the winner was the Millennium Hilton located on the west side of the Chao Praya.  It is conveniently located within walking distance to the Iconsiam Mall and only a short boat ride across the river to visit with friends staying at a different hotel.

Did I mention there is a mall next door to the Hilton?  Besides the typical shops and restaurants located on the eight floors, there are a few Starbucks to choose from.  The best, I've found, is the one on the top floor overlooking the river.  My new home away from home away from home.

On their last night here, Darrell and Brad introduced me to an incredible BBQ place in a nearby neighborhood called the Smokin' Pug BBQ. I thought only good BBQ existed in the US but this place was definitely a contender. It's definitely on the list of places to experience again!
